Winning Reader Puts Nebraska on Weekly Drawing Map

Friday, June 29th, 2012

For the first time in the history of the Pentecostal Evangel Weekly Drawing, a Nebraska reader was selected as a winner in the contest earlier this month. The home of the Cornhuskers is the 45th state in the U.S. to produce a prize recipient since the contest debuted in March 2006. Only Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, […]

To ‘e’ or not to ‘e’

Friday, June 22nd, 2012

The news caught me by surprise, but probably should not have. E-books have now outpaced hardcover sales for the first time. I’m guessing this is one of those irreversible trends, like the advent of income tax or the creation of a new federal agency.

An earlier article in the L.A. Times prompted “Never Alone,” my May 29, 2009, Out There entry. At that point, research had identified 1,000 or so species of microbes […]

Only Prince Edward Island remains. After a recent entry from a Nova Scotia reader, PEI is the lone Canadian province without representation in the history of the Pentecostal Evangel Weekly Drawing. Since its debut in March 2006, the drawing has received submissions from nine of Canada’s 10 provinces.
The Weekly Drawing’s appeal to international visitors on […]

The Springfield airport was jammed with cheering throngs late last night as 80 local World War II veterans returned from a one-day trip to Washington, D.C. Sponsored by Ozarks Honor Flight, the vets were brought to see the World War II Memorial that was built in their honor. The flight included family and other escorts. […]

Zapped

Popular Science has posted a photo gallery on their website entitled “2011’s Top 10 New Species.”
New species? Absolutely. Science is nowhere near cataloging the wealth of life forms created on, and in, this planet. For an example of that second category, consider the devil’s worm, a newly discovered worm species found more than half a mile underground in […]

Key Bearers Reaches 10-Million Magazine Milestone

Friday, June 1st, 2012

Thanks to funding received during May, the Key Bearers ministry has underwritten the cost of providing at least 10 million copies of the Pentecostal Evangel to the incarcerated since 1996. Every dollar donated to Key Bearers covers the printing and shipping of four English- or Spanish-language Evangels.
More than 11,000 copies of every weekly Pentecostal Evangel […]
